Ambu's name

Ambu is a name that was chosen because it denotes emergency equipment in many cultures.

If you look into the etymology behind the name, you will find that the words 'ambulance' and 'ambulatory' derive from the Latin: 'ambulare' meaning 'to walk'. The Ambu Bag was given its name, because it can be used anywhere and not just in a hospital. This is the same logic behind the word 'ambulance' i.e. it can come to the people in need, instead of the people in need having to come to it.

When the Ambu Bag was invented in 1956 it was so groundbreaking and commercially successful that the company name eventually was changed (the company had previously been called Testa Laboratory).
